Dear [% member:name_first default="friend" %],
You many not have heard much about it in the mainstream media, but for the last month workers at over a dozen oil refineries have been striking for safer working conditions. In total 30,00 workers responsible for more than 20% of the nation's refining capacity have walked off the job in California, Washington, Texas, Ohio, and Indiana.
Many in the environmental movement have been standing in solidarity with the striking workers, drawing the connections between workplace safety and community environmental protection. This alliance has led to renewed calls for long-term energy democracy and community control over our energy supply.
